Mineral Point is a regional art destination. Historic buildings house working artists, craft galleries, cafes, and cultural spaces, while landmarks like Pendarvis and Shake Rag Alley anchor the town’s heritage and creative identity. Visitors come for pottery, jewelry, fine art, and handmade goods, but stay for the atmosphere: quiet, historic, and unusually intact.

Spring Green Spring Green, Wisconsin, is a small Driftless-region village with an outsized arts and literary presence, anchored by the nationally acclaimed American Players Theatre and drawing audiences from across the country to its wooded outdoor amphitheater for Shakespeare and classical productions. Additionally, nearby Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright’s estate gives Spring Green the feel of a rural arts enclave, where theater and architecture shape both the visitor experience and the town’s identity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Driftless Area?

The Driftless Area is a region of the Upper Midwest that was never covered by the last glacier. While much of Wisconsin and its neighboring states were flattened and reshaped by ice, this pocket was left untouched. Because it missed that glacial “drift,” it kept its steep ridges, deep river valleys, cold spring-fed trout streams, and narrow winding roads.

What is House on the Rock?

House on the Rock is a large, eclectic Spring Green attraction attraction built on a wooded ridge. It includes themed rooms, collections, mechanical displays, and a long cantilevered structure extending over the valley.

What is Pendarvis?

Pendarvis is a Mineral Point historic site made up of restored 19th-century stone cottages once home to Cornish miners. The buildings were later preserved and restored in the early 20th century and now operate as a museum interpreting Mineral Point’s early settlement.

Is Mineral Point walkable?

Mineral Point is walkable, but it is not flat. The historic downtown runs along High Street, which slopes gradually. Side streets can be steeper. Many buildings date to the 1800s and may have stone steps or raised entries. Sidewalks are generally present but may be uneven in places.
